Recently, under the supervision of the staff of the Tianjin Nanjiang Customs, the Anti-Smuggling Branch of the Tianjin Economic and Technological Development Zone Customs, and the Tianjin Entry-Exit Border Inspection Station, a batch of "foreign garbage" weighing 14.0 tons was loaded onto a ship and returned out of the country. This is the first time this year that Tianjin Port has seized solid waste prohibited from entering the country in the ship's material channel.
According to the investigation, a few days ago, a fishing vessel evaded customs supervision, received waste from a ship on an international voyage, and attempted to smuggle it into the country, but was stopped by the inspectors on the spot. This batch of waste includes old mechanical parts, old maintenance and testing tools, old batteries and other scrapped parts generated during the operation of the ship, which are not individually packaged and have obvious traces of use and dirt. According to the laboratory of Tianjin Customs Chemical Ore Metal Materials Testing Center, this batch of materials belongs to solid waste.
According to the relevant provisions of the Law of the People's Republic of China on the Prevention and Control of Environmental Pollution by Solid Waste, China prohibits the dumping, stacking and disposal of solid waste from abroad. At present, the case has been transferred to the anti-smuggling department of the customs for handling.
