据讣告，陆道培1931年10月30日出生于上海，祖籍浙江宁波。1955年毕业于中南同济医学院（现华中科技大学同济医学院），后任职于北京中央人民医院（现北京大学人民医院）。1981年创建北京大学血液病研究所并担任所长，1984年任中华医学会副会长，1986年任北京大学人民医院内科主任、北京大学血液病国家重点学科带头人（首席专家）。1992年，他发起创建中华骨髓库，1996年建立国内首家脐带血库。1996年当选中国工程院院士。2000年任中华医学会血液学分会主任委员。
