Unlike many publishers and hardware manufacturers who see winning awards like the TGA as an important goal, Nintendo doesn't have these awards as its primary goal when developing games and consoles.
In an interview with 3Djuegos, Enrique Marcellán, public relations manager of Nintendo Spain, revealed the company's views on awards such as the Game Awards. He made it clear that such awards are not the main goal of the Japanese company.
Marcellán stressed that in today's world of gaming awards, many companies see winning awards as an important achievement, and Nintendo wants to differentiate itself from its competitors in this regard. For him, what Nintendo values most is "player satisfaction".
He said that this philosophy applies not only to the upcoming new consoles, but more importantly to the games that the new consoles will host. He cites Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Banana as examples, two games whose goal is to "light up the stars in the eyes of fans" and make players feel genuinely happy.
Marcellán further elaborated that while winning an award is an important recognition, especially for a work with a long development cycle, it is not the primary pursuit. He made an analogy: "It's like winning the Ballon d'Or, but what really matters is the players themselves or winning the league. This means that Nintendo is more focused on overall achievements and the player's experience, rather than individual or superficial recognition.
